Celebrating the festive season in Hemel Hempstead
4 December 2023

The Christmas lights have been switched on and Hemel Hempstead is looking well and truly festive! Get into the holiday spirit with us as we explore activities, shopping, and festive menus at some of our favourite businesses local to Hamilton Apartments…

Dreaming of a white Christmas?

Take to the slopes at The Snow Centre, home of indoor skiing and snowboarding. Teachers are on hand to help beginners carve out their first turns and there’s also ringo rides and family sledging on offer. If you’re more of an ice-skating fan, then check out the indoor arena at Planet Ice, near Jarman Park.

Family-friendly festivities

If you’ve lived in Hemel Hempstead but never been to the Harry Potter Studio Tour, now’s a great time to go – Christmas is coming to Hogwarts! A blanket of studio snow and festive décor will adorn the various sets, bringing an additional touch of magic to the wizarding world. It’s a great day out for all ages.

Over at The Marlowes shopping centre, enjoy a family visit to Santa’s Woodland Grotto. Pre-book to secure a spot for young ones to decorate a wooden tree bauble, meet Santa, and take home a little festive treat. While the event is free, there’s a suggested £5 donation for those who can give, in aid of the event’s charitable partner, the British Heart Foundation.

Shop local at Old Town

Head to Old Town – the ‘prettiest high street in Hertfordshire’ – for some Christmas shopping and support local and independent retailers at the same time. The House of Elliott is a treasure trove of gifts, clothes, jewellery, and home accessories that make wonderful presents. At Off The Wall, you can browse an eclectic collection of curiosities and collectibles – perfect for one-of-a-kind, memorable gifts! Or head to F&R Boutique for pre-loved high-end clothing and candles, jewellery and socks produced by local and independent brands. And on 9th December, the Riverside Artisan Christmas Market will return to the Riverside Shopping Centre. Peruse festive products from a range of independent producers, pick up some gifts or stocking fillers, and grab some delicious treats for yourself too!

Festive food and drink

Coffee with a twist of seasonal syrup is the perfect pick-me-up on chilly December days. Head to Old Town Artichoke for a wonderfully warming cinnamon or gingerbread latte, or grab a pumpkin spiced coffee and a gift for the green-thumbed people in your life at Old Town Hive – this high street gem not only sells great drinks but also a variety of houseplants. Hive is also a great place to meet friends for an evening catch up, as they are open Friday nights from 7pm for cocktails!

The Marchmont Arms, in Piccotts End, is a pub, bar and restaurant in a converted stately home offering a Brunch With Santa for young ones, or hand-crafted cocktails and festive dishes if you’re looking to meet with friends and family.

And residents at Hamilton Apartments should keep an eye on the noticeboard or residents’ Facebook group, where our Community Managers will keep you in the loop about seasonal events they are organising. This includes coffee mornings and festive films in the beautiful communal dining area and lounge.
