Mura is a female ornamental name of Japanese origin meaning village, and this essence of community is integral to who we are. At Hamilton Apartments, our first building to launch, Community Managers Jess and Rebecca take pride in creating a friendly, welcoming space for our residents to meet with like-minded people. From helping with queries to hosting quizzes, coffee mornings and events in our beautiful communal spaces, they’re on hand to help our residents live their best lives.
“I love talking to our residents,” Jess says, “it’s so nice to see familiar faces and get to know the people who live here.” Jess has worked at Hamilton Apartments since its launch. She met our CEO, Dominic Sherry, and COO, Bala Balasubramaniam, while working at the local coffee shop opposite our building, where they would visit to discuss the launch of Mura’s inaugural rental community. They were impressed with Jess’ spark and energy from the onset and invited her to join the team following an interview process. She brings six years’ experience in people-facing roles, including working at a care home, and her stellar people skills are key to providing an elevated rental experience.

“It’s great to build relationships,” Rebecca agrees. “It’s an exciting venture to see Hamilton Apartments grow, introducing events and social platforms for the tenants.” Rebecca joined us earlier this year, having spent seven years working within the property sector in Hertfordshire and London. Her previous roles span lettings, sales, accounting, and marketing, so she understands the rental experience from several perspectives.
Working with Jess, Rebecca has set up a Facebook group for our Hamilton Apartments community to connect digitally, and they are organising an exciting events programme to get everyone together in our communal kitchen and lounge area. “We’re planning weekly coffee mornings, quizzes, festive events over the holiday season, and more!”

Both Jess and Rebecca live in the local area, so they also help connect our residents to the wider Hemel Hempstead community. This has been a great help for those who are moving to the area for the first time, such as professionals looking for the peace and tranquillity of a historic small town within easy commuting distance to London. Having someone on hand who can point you to a neighbourhood gem where you can get your morning coffee, or a nice walking route through the Old Town to Gadebridge Park and beyond, helps our residents settle in.
“Whenever anyone asks me ‘Where shall I go?’ I always recommend Boxmoor,” Rebecca says. “You have the beautiful canal side Fishery Wharf Café, views of the animals and barge boats. There are shops and pubs along the high street and beautiful walking trails.”
“I love trying different foods,” Jess adds, “so I enjoy being able to give recommendations about all the amazing local restaurants we have – plenty of pizza joints, sushi restaurants like Wakusei, or traditional Turkish cuisine like Opuz Kitchen & Bar…whatever food our residents are in the mood for, I probably know a place!”
